BE ACTIVE WALES FUNDING
Supporting a Stronger Community
By improving facilities and creating more chances to get involved, the club can welcome new players, support current members and encourage people of all ages and abilities to enjoy bowls. This investment will help Gelli Park Community Bowls Club keep offering a friendly, active and welcoming space at the heart of the local community.
We received funding towards:
- Portable corner access steps for the green
- Side access steps for the green
- Portable ramps to provide equipment and wheelchair access to the green
To make the green more accessible, portable corner and side access steps will make it safer and easier for everyone to get on and off. Portable ramps will also help wheelchair users and people with disabilities access the green safely and independently, while making it simple to move equipment on and off the green.
Inclusive Community Participation
These improvements will help make the green a more welcoming and inclusive place, so more people in the community can enjoy activities, events and social occasions. By removing physical barriers, the project will give players, spectators, volunteers and visitors of all abilities a fair chance to take part.
A Bowdry water-removal roller
Another important part of this project is keeping the green safe to use. The Bowdry roller will help clear away standing water, reducing slip risks and helping protect the green and playing surface from damage.
Better playing conditions are another big benefit. By removing excess surface water quickly after rain, the Bowdry roller can help the green dry more evenly, so play can get going again sooner and everyone can enjoy a consistent, high-quality surface.
A Bowls Buddies Kit
We’re excited to build stronger links with local schools and encourage young people in our community to give lawn bowls a try. We want to make the sport fun, welcoming and easy to get into for the next generation, while creating more chances for people of all ages to enjoy the game.
The Bowls Buddies Kit has everything needed for a fun and supportive learning experience. It includes soft bowls with a bias, so children can see how lawn bowls move, as well as targets, hoops, discs and cones. Made for children and beginners, it’s a great way to get started and enjoy the sport. Next season, we’ll be running fun taster days for anyone who would like to have a go, including family fun days, youth sessions and opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved.
Our school sessions can be adapted for different ages, abilities and group sizes. With simple activities that help build confidence, coordination and teamwork, everyone can join in. Run in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere, the sessions give pupils the chance to learn new skills, make friends and discover a sport they can enjoy for years to come.
